Magic Landscapes
2007 ─ ongoing
The series stems from my attraction to the natural world. Becoming one with nature—walking through its wilderness, hiding in its depths, being blinded by its light—are among the healing rituals I turn to in response to the demands of urban life, which increasingly feels more alienating as we socialize solemnly through our various devices.
Nature’s raw power is restorative: a refuge for release, for existential cleansing, and for reconnecting to the continuous flow of cosmic energy. Nature highlights our vulnerability as humans and opens the path to both tangible and intangible non-human elements—ones we must heed if we are to resist and fight the unfolding catastrophe of climate change.
Often, I feel that if I learn to see the natural world in its expansive dimension, I will discover the “magic” that humanity has lost in its illusion of infinite power. Though I mostly paint from snapshots taken in nature, the more I immerse myself in it, the more I seek to capture a life that exists beyond what I can paint.
