Blue Light
2020 ─ present

“...Haunting, beautiful and at times a little unnerving, in this series Paliou depicts figures illuminated by the addictive blue light from the screens we are attached to around the clock. There seems to be no daylight in these portraits, just the glow in which we become faceless, or strangely highlighted to underline all the more how disengaged we have become with the outside world...Is the natural blue light a direct observation of the artist? Or is it too being filtered through the blue light of a screen? This confusion is compounded when we learn that some works have been inspired by images on the artist’s mobile phone. Like most of us, Paliou is following the human experience through her device. Through this ambiguity the viewer is definitely confronted with the universal problem of how difficult it has become today to have a direct relationship with nature regardless of our age or state in life, even as we strive to engage with it.” (Exempts from a text by Wilhelmina von Blumenthal)
